Another bowl thanks to Hurricane Ike. A huge ash tree fell at the country club where my son is superintendent, and I volunteered to help with the cleanup. I cut up a huge ash tree and onece again abused my 18" Poulan saw. The saw is just a cheap big box saw that I bought before I got my lathe that I got for trimming. Since the lathe, I have cut some pretty big timber and knock on wood (my head), it just keeps on truckin. Anyway I got a crotch piece for this bowl, it measures 11.75" x 4" and has a lot going on as far as grain, curl, and a bark inclusion to boot. Home brew oil, beall buffed and renaissance wax. As always comment/cirtiques requested, and thanks for looking.

Steve,
That is a great looking bowl, really love the wild grain and all. Nice job on the overall shape and thickness, it looks solid without having that heavy, thick look to it. Outstanding.

Steven throw those pictures away, they just won't be able to do the curly wood you have justice, I have a bowl with similar wood/grain and we keep it, it is just beautiful as is yours.
Keep it and polish a bit, in a year or two it will look even better, and yes it does take large old trees to get this kind of wood, you were lucky in that respect, well done :-))
