I found this on another web site for the local radio station. Thought it was something to "aspire" to.

Wow! That is very cool...I hope it isn't offensive to anyone...it is art, right! :D

Can anyone identify the wood? I was thinking red oak but I'm not so sure now....

If it were hollow, I would have said it was Lyle Jamison's work...

And he does much of his on the lathe!

Seriously, this is a nice piece of work. (no pun intended) Getting the grain contours just right can greatly enhance the human forms on this genré of sculpture. Not everyone has that kind of skill to see into the wood and adjust things to make it work out.

Darn ----am I GETTIN" OLD! I believe the wood is Southern Yellow Pine. Notice the knots.

Could be wrong, but I've seen those knots in Knotty Pine but never in Oak.

"Just one OLD man's opinion."

Looks like SYP to me. Very nice attention to detail and the wood grain is what really sets it off. Someone was very tasteful as they carved the piece.

Hope I'm not out of line but this reminds me of an old cartoon. Bartender is serving and asks person at end of bar if she would mind moving her things.
Forgive me if I strayed away from Woodworking!!:)

Boy, that's the sexiest piece of wood I've ever seen. If my wife sees this she's not going to believe this is a wood working site. And then I'll be given the third degree about all the time I spend here.
