Hi guys,

How do you go about making curved drawers like the ones in this thread, http://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=70841

Especially if you need to be consistent and build multiple ones :D

A shaper?

I have done curved surfaces by hand with great results.

That would eliminate all of the guesswork.

I have limited tools to work with so I thought different people might give me different ways to approach it

Do you oiwn a Table Saw?

Glen Blanchard says he made them by: " As to the rounding of the drawer fronts - it was really quite simple. I drew a curve on the edge of one of the drawers simulating the contour I was after. I then put the assembled drawer on the table saw, and tilted the blade to an angle that removed most of the waste on both the top and bottom sides. It was then a matter of using 100 grit sandpaper to get rid of the line angles and round them all up. This was very fast and very easy."

You could also use a curved spokeshave or make a curved scraper. Remove most of the material with a hand plane or by sawing.

The latest issue of Fine Woodworking (May 2009 I think) has an excellent article on building a bow-front hall table that includes a drawer. The technique used will work great for building curved drawers.

Easy way? A moulder. Harder way, shaper. Even more difficult way, by hand with planes and curved scrapers

Thanks guys,

Tony I have a small inexpensive Delta table saw ($99) that vibrates more then my reciprocrating saw :)

This probably should be a new thread, but do you guys think $350 for a Delta 36-979 (no fence) floor model is a good price?
