I've been meaning to build myself some lamps, but the experience I had with the first junk hardware kit I got from lowes or HD kept me from trying again after the first.

I'm looking for a simple set that includes plug, cord, light socket and shade holder, ideall for $20 or less. I'm willing to mail order but can't seem to find anything that looks quality.

Thanks,
Andy

I had the same problem when I made some lamps for Christmas presents last year. I couldn't find anthing but "el cheapo" from Lowes/HD. I hope that others have found some...I'll be watching this thread also.

LV has a selection of parts (http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=44221&cat=1,250,43298). I haven't purchased any of these, but LV doesn't usually sell junk.

If you try these or otherwise find some good ones, please let us know where. I have a few ideas for lamps floating around in my head (plenty of room, you know ;)) and I'll eventually need good parts.

These guys carry "a few" lamp parts:

If you are really lucky they might have what you are looking for......

I made some lamps last year & got the parts from Grand Brass Lamp Parts.
The sockets were the best I had ever seen.

I've found the people at TX Lamp Parts to be really helpful: http://txlampparts.com.

Their prices are extremely reasonable as is their shipping. Last time I ordered from them, their website wasn't able to calculate shipping automatically but they sent me an estimate within a day.

If you're into retro, be sure to check out their rayon lamp cord.

Thanks for the sites everyone. LV doesn't ship some electrical parts to the US (code I think) so that wasn't an option (although the first place I checked). The other sites all looked good, with Grand Brass looking like the best made of the bunch.

thanks,
Andy
