Flattened my pipe

I attached a 5" length of 8" dia 30ga Borg pipe and a 8 section of 6" hose to my custom built, twin motor, double prop, multi drum, high filtration, franken collector and flattened the pipe like a pancake. :D Hee, hee, I guess I've got the vacuum just about right!. I measured the air velocity at a bit over 8000 ft/min thru the 6" hose just before she went squish. I was actually trying to test out the possibility of using Borg pipe., so I choked off the end of the pipe. I thought if I used 8" for the trunk line and had a fitting every 5 ft maybe it would be strong enough. Guess not. So it will probably be spiral pipe...$$$...

Holy Moly batman, sounds like you need cast iron pipe for that monster

You should be able to find some 24 ga. 8" snap-lock for much less than spiral at a local HVAC supplier.

Well, his is without the filters hooked up yet. So I'll get some reduced flow when I add them into the mix. My 3 phase 1 1/2 hp motor is pulling 6 amps, should be 4, and the 1 1/2 single phase 220v is pullung 8.5, shoud be 7.5, so I have to coke down the airflow or I'll burn the motors up. I've done some testing but without a fan curve I still don't know what to expect when I add the rsistance of filters and a complet pipe run.

I'll contact my HVAC buddy and see if I can borough a 5" peice of 24 ga for a little test run!
