It is amazing how a fireplace can change the "feel" of a room. Great improvement!

Thanks everyone...like I said it was long overdue. HerDeanShip actually threatened to pay someone to do it so I had to get moving! She's HATED the old stove, hearth and beams for oh...10 years now.:o Besides the mantle is all custom built...and she couldn't afford it anyway.;)

Nice job Glen, really made a big difference. How old is the house? The beams look massive!!

So can you now sit down and relax or it is on to the next project?

Jim...It's a simple 45 year old Cape Cod. The "beams" where put up when they opened that wall up. It used to be a bedroom and now it's our TV room. The beams were not done by someone who really knew what they were doing. They were being to sag under the upstairs master bedroom weight. It was time to change not only for looks so I replaced it with a correctly engineered LVL Beam.

Senior...This has been an ongoing project that keeps ongoing. We gutted and built/the kitchen...the downstairs bath...the main stairs...all the doors and molding. I still need to do the crown in both rooms...the floor needs work...then we move to the upstairs office...then the master bath...then the...well as you can see...it's ongoing.

Glenn, that is quite the transformation. I love it! You did a fantastic job. I can't get over the before and after difference. I really like the recess lights to light up the art work as well. You should be very satisfied with this one.

It looks great Glenn. I am somewhat behind looking as I am neck deep in a project.. Quite a difference in the upgraded appearance of what it replaced. That ole line of "I'll just get somebody else and pay them too" usually gets results pronto. :)

Sarge..

Very nice. I have a "problem" fireplace that I would love to do that same thing to, but have to figure something out for the surround (its a brick-and-motar wood burning fireplace, so I can't have wood within a foot of so of it ... have to check on that setback amount ... and its only about 14" away from a patio door).

As others have said, you really transformed the entire look of the room. That's an improvement worth much more than the cost of the materials.

Show us some pictures Frank...ya never know what the folks here can come up with.
