Just a little Bubinga bowl. 5-3/4" by 1-3/4". Pierced with a Dremel and engraving bits. Finished with Seal-A-Cell. The bottom was buffified with white diamond and wax.

Critiques welcome as always!

Well balanced and proportioned. Nicely detailed and without an obtrusive finish.

Great job! How long did the piercing take?

Steven, I'm not sure exactly how long it took but it seemed like somewhere between 2-1/2 hours and 3 years. I'll send you my "I Need A Life" hat if you want to give it a go. :D

Is the holy section a lid that can be removed? Nice bowl. :)

Neal - beautiful bowl and photos! Very pretty wood and finish! Love all the detail work - especially the carving! Have to agree with Chris - sure looks like this is a lidded bowl! If it is not - I really am curious how you managed to get such clean recesses along the edge of the bowl - next to the carvings!

Add a lid and it would make a very nice potpourri bowl.

Beautiful! I'm guessing you turned and sanded the bowl, then glued in the center disk and finish turned? Or did you do it with a hollowing tool?

Thanks for the nice words, folks.

The bowl is all one piece. There is no removable top. After being used to hollowing through much smaller rims it was kinda nice to hollow through that big ol' fat opening.

Here's a couple of in-progress pics.

In that case Neal - most impressive!

I wouldn't know where to begin on something like that. Very impressive.

My wife likes Bubinga because it is fun to say.

Now that is cool! Beautiful work and beautiful wood! As I told my friend Keith Burns, you may cause me to start playing golf.;)
I love your work. Thanks for showing it and thanks for showing the "in progress". It helps to see how you did it and appreciate it even more.

All the best.

It's a lovely piece Neal, but since you asked, the piercing just doesn't look, you know, randomly random. Or something like that. Doubt if that made sense but will leave it anyhow.

Now wait just a minute. What happened to you being a minimalist?

Really a nice piece. Did you use a pattern for the piercing or just freehand it?

Cool how it looks like it has a lid.

2nd piercing in a few days apart...both have been great. Seeing a trend here.

Is the pierced area separate or did you make a HF and then do it?

LOVE IT!
