Anybody know what the stock blade guard is made of? Is it Lexan/polycarbonate? I just installed an Excalibur guard, so I do not need it anymore. However, I was thinking that I might cut it up to make small jigs, but wanted to make sure I wasn't expecting more strength/hardness than it will provide.

Also, how does PC machine on a bandsaw? Cleanly, or is there a big mess? If it is messy, I'd probably just use a coping saw to cut it.

I assume the Unisaw guard is the cheapest plastic Delta could get away with! Nothing special! I never used the stock guard, until I got a Biesemeyer with overarm DC!

My experience is that ALL plastic saws badly on a TS! The blade creates too much heat @ 3450 to 4000rpm regardless of type! A bandsaw (or by hand) would be a much better solution.

I suggest you look into a Shark Guard - made by Lee Styron. Great protection and dust collection.
