A friend gave me some 2" thick mahogany a while back to dress up a project I was working on and I wanted to make him something out of the leftovers as a thank you.

I did two passes on my TS to resaw the stock down to 1/4" roughly. Hand planed until relativley smooth. I just have the pieces taped in place as a visual aid to help me with some ideas.

I think I will do splines in the corners and try to inlay my very first attrocious attempt at making veneer banding...

It's not pretty, but, it will definitley be one of a kind once I'm done. The key here is sentimental value. I've come to the conclusion that I've started my own style. Cut every angle at either 91 or 89 degrees then try to hide mistakes with the belt sander. It creates visual interest. People stare at my work and try to figure out exactly what's wrong with it. LOL

So the inlay didn't take the stain like I expected it to. Next time, I will know better.
Otherwise, it's done. Not the prettiest box I have ever seen, but it's the thought that counts, Right? ... right? ..

Nice job on the box.. a contrasting color lid would probably made a big difference in breaking the continuity. Your joinery looks good.

Sarge..
