1/2" walnut, drill with forstner 2" bit to .020" deep

determine diameter and knock of corners with any saw, or if using a band saw cut 1/8" proud of diameter. corners knocked off in pic

mount recess in chuck and bring up tail stock tight

turn to desired diameter

cut recess to approx 2 1/8" depending on chuck jaws and to .050" deep.

reverse to chuck and turn top recess for coaster

don't forget to include depth of point of forstner like I did. "Design change', LOL.

You can finish, leave non finished, insert cork for cool beverages or leather for warm beverages. This one will be in the shop.

good to know how to do this---my wife ha dthis request on the x-mas list but time constrants and lack of know how put it on the back burner----looks like something I can turn out before her birthday this month
