I picked up a couple pieces of Masur Birch at the TAW Symposium and this is what I got out of one. I love this wood. This HF is 5" dia. x 5-1/2" tall w/o the finial. With the finial it is 9-1/4" tall. Hollowed thru a 1/2" opening. Finial is Blackwood. Please let me know what you think.

Keith:
I hate to keep saying this, but, that may be the best yet. Did I say that about the last one, maybe?
Your work is both inspiring and at the same time, makes me want to sell my stuff and start golfing more.;)
Great work as always. Thanks for showing it.

All the best.

Very nice work Keith! Love the form - especially the small foot! Your finials have become very refined - this one is beautifully proportioned! Creatively you seem to be on fire lately with your turnings! That's wonderful - keep it up!

Thanks guys for the comments.

Pete, I beleive it comes from Finland. I could be mistaken but I think thats the only place it comes from. I have been trying for awhile to find some so felt fortunate to finally get it.

Keith,
That HF is amazing! I think you have done a fabulous job with the wood, form and finial. I was going to post a HF with a finial I did yesterday, but I think I'll wait a several days until the great comments you are getting slow down a little or it finally moves to page 2. LOL Again, amazing piece.

Outstanding, Keith. I have seen a number of masur birch pieces over the years and they always intrigue me with how the figure really works for hollow forms. Wonderful piece this one is!

Simple, very elegant and somewhat sensual shape. The finial mirrors the hf nicely. Skillful work. Gotta love it.

That is pretty much perfection right there. The transition between the finial and HF is perfect. Well done on everything.
