Hello,

I'm new to turning so I search the internet for guidance and ideas.
Of all the the bowls and vases I've found in past six months, one
artists work has me going back again and again.

Here's the link to his page: http://www.placek.info/Squarebowls.html
I haven't tried to turn square yet, I hope in the next few years I will be able to turn some like these.

I like this forum and I'm eager to learn from your posts.

Thanks for your comments.

As for my turnings.. I'm just now learning to use the tools.
I have turned a few bowls so far, nothing great I think.
I need to get a digital camera before I can post anything.

My work will take me out-of-town for the next few months
and I'll start posting then.

Jack:
You have just found one of the best places on the web for help and advice for turning. Welcome! I think my wife wishes that I had not found this place.;)

All the best.

Jack,

Betcha won't have to wait a year - I turned my first square bowl the other day and it turned out ok. The link you provided, and I appreciate it, is an inspiration for my next one. I've turned for well years as a kid, then took about a bunch of years off, then upon semi-retirement went back to it. But even so, this is my first square bowl. Best to you and thanks for sharing the link!!! You'll have one mastered probably before you think you will!

that is quite a site. Some of those pieces look so cool, he makes the grain pop out, it almost looks like there is another dimension happening there.

Welcome to the creek.

I was very surprised at all the activity my website has received in the past few days.
The majority of the hits came from this thread.
I had no idea this forum existed until Tim Boger sent me a message.
Thanks Jack for finding me and posting the link.

I will post my new work when I find the time. I have seven new bowls in various stages.
Turning during the Winter months her in Western New York can be difficult.

Mark you bowls are wonderful, where at in western NY are you? I live in western Pa. Dubois to be exact and yes turning in my garage is cold this time a year. Work takes me to Bradford alot and I hop over the border and go to westpenn hardwoods.

Bob, I live north of Niagara Falls in a little town called Lewiston.
This Winter has been very cold and it's difficult to keep my shop
heated correctly. I do heat 24hrs. a day.

The exotic wood I use has a tendency to check during these months
with the low humidity. I have noticed hidden checks appear even after
the bowl is completely finished. Normally I let the bowl rest for 30 days
after turning to make sure that there are no issues with movement.

I'm glad you like my work. Thanks for your comments.
