I stole the idea for the collar on this HF from Ed Koenig. He posted one on another forum a few weeks ago that was turned from sugar maple burl. It was one of my favorite HF's I've seen. So I decided to try one myself. Mine isn't anything near what his is but it is a nice piece of burl. 9 1/2" x 4", finished with Danish Oil and lacquer. The opening is 3/4" and it's hollowed to about 2" from the bottom (as far as my tools reach).

Very cool.

Is that collar a natural edge or did you carve it?

Either way - good job.

Curt that is a beauty. Is the collar turned separate piece? That is some pretty wood Curt.

Curt - exceptionally fine work on this one! Love the natural edge opening! Good looking wood and finish! Great form! Really like the proportions, curves and I especially like the small foot!

You have been posting some really beautiful work lately! Thanks for sharing! Hope you enter this in one of those juried contests - it's bound to win!

Curt, You have done yourself proud! The form is right on and the flair of the collar to the natural edge top is wonderful! The piece of wood you chose for the vase is amazing! Keep on pushing forward as we all love to see what others create.
