Red Oak -- saw on the back of a truck- the guy was getting his splitter out - I asked what type of wood he said Black Locust -- he gave me 2 stove size logs. It is not Locust -- having fun with free wood..

Good score Paul! Hope you can get that nice rough-out dry without splitting. It should be pretty when finished.

Dna is costing me an arm and leg.. right at $20.00 gal at Lowes..

So I boiled the rough out... took it for ever to bring it up a boil... then boiled for about one and half hours cooled down and bagged -- will see what happens.

That should be interesting. Been wanting to try boiling but lack the resources. Please keep us posted on how it goes.

will you ebonize or stain your red oak????????

Nope to the stain -- Mylands sealer then friction polish! I have a much smaller bowl from the same log -- will play with it first... and see -- In any case no coloring will be added...
