I just finished my second segmented bowl. I'm still learning but overall I'm happy with the results. I think I found a couple of solutions the the rings sliding after clamping and will use them in my next project. The wood is Lacewood, cocobolo, maple, purple heart, and padauk

Very nice work Dave. Joinery looks good. Just a bit of misalignment above and below the feature? Outstanding for only your second attempt!

alignment proplems due to ring shift after clamping but i think I've got that figured out now.
thanks

keep them coming. You are keeping me inspired! Someday I will work up the nerve to try one. I think that is beautiful.

Outstanding work Dave, I think you have a very promising future with segmented turnings. Is that your first "attempt" in the background?

Cheers

Jim,

Don't be disgusted, it's only wood and you still have the experience gained through your efforts. I have sent several bouncing around the workshop myself, two off the lathe and one pulled out of my hand at the buffer. After the shock of the launch I try to memorize what I did wrong so hopefully I wont do it again.

One thing I've learned, the more important the piece - the closer to completion it gets before I blow it.

Cheers

That's a very nice piece Dave. Aside from the slight slipping issue that you've already learned from, it looks great. The form has a nice flowing curve, which I don't seem to see often enough in segmented work. Great job, especially for a second attempt. (Your first attempt looks nice, too.)
