Is it an anniversary, or a birthday? (for some reason, an image of Frosty coming to life and saying "Happy Burthday!" just popped to mind....)

either way - thanks to everyone that's made SMC a success!

Amazing. Congratulations!

So Keith, did you have any idea what you were getting into 6 years ago?

Matt,

I had absolutely no idea, no crystal ball and couldn't in my wildest dreams predicted that we would be where we are right now. In the beginning we were just trying to help a small group of woodworkers out when Badger Pond was closing. There was a group that wanted to be able to stay together so I offered to purchase the software and host a public forum so they could carry on. We adopted the basic rules from Badger Pond and tried to keep the atmosphere the same, this is what everyone wanted.

Along the way we have made some adjustments, mostly due to our tremendous growth which at times seemed to be insane. At the same time I had a constant worry about how I was going to pay the bills, we grew so fast I couldn't even forecast our needs. When Hampton Roads Online closed its doors I was sure it would be the end of SawMill Creek but once again we survived (thanks to John Bailey's fund drive), moving to my shop office and crossing our fingers in hopes that we could keep up with the increasing traffic.

Two days from now will the the anniversary of my first major blunder here. Those of you who started out with us here at The Creek might remember that I was in the vBulletin back office and made a huge mistake that deleted about 500 threads and 200 peoples accounts. It took me a long time to wash the egg off of my face for that mistake :)

So, I have made a lot of mistakes in six years. Almost everyone here has been kind enough to forgive me, especially when they know that I am not trained to run a public forum. No doubt I will make more mistakes in the future, if we don't adjust to the winds of change we will surely drop by the wayside...and we would like to continue on for as many years or decades as possible.

On a day like today I can't help but think about all the people we have lost who have worked so hard to see SawMill Creek succeed. We lost Ken Salisbury last year and have lost a few others since we started, they were huge supporters of The Creek and loved being part of the Community we were trying to build. Also our "Plank Owners", these are the folks that have been with us since the very beginning...Members and Contributors...the people whose registration numbers are in the first hundred and the first thousand.

Thanks to each of you for your continued support for the last six years, here's to ya!!
.

Congratulations to Keith and Jackie. Thank you.

While I haven't been here the whole six years, I must add that without Sawmill Creek, I wouldn't have most of my shop equipment nor a shop to move into at our new house. This place has been very helpful and I hope it continues for a long time.

Happy Anniversary SMC!
I'm glad that I found this forum. Everyone here seems willing to offer advice freely and in a civil manner (unlike some other forums I've been a part of). This is a great source of knowledge. Thanks to all who make it possible.

Happy Anniversary/Birthday SMC. Thanks for all of the hard work by Keith, Jackie, Aaron and all of the moderators. This is definitely the best place to visit on the woodworking web.
