It's easy, just right click on your mouse button and the ball freezes. Then you can change the color.

No cheating involved. There were no instructions other than click on the ball to change the color. Thinking outside the box developed an alternate more efficient answer than chasing the ball all over the screen with your mouse.

I tried a piece of tape. Didn't work.

I dunno...right clicking did nothing but pop up a window of useless commands that I couldn't figure out to use to cheat. :)

However, it isn't too bad to change the color...all in the wrist! :D
