Hi all, I am about to start finishing a dresser I built for my new daughter (born last Tuesday:) My wife wants it painted white and no brush strokes. I have never sprayed paint before, but have sprayed lacquer several times through my HVLP gun. I have spent some time searching the threads and am still not sure if this would work so here goes...

Spray on 1-2 coats of Zinsser BIN as a primer, sanding between coats to flatten the grain, then spray several more coats of a tinted lacquer (I was thinking about tinting DEFT I purchased at the local BORG). My questions are 1. will this cause any problems using two different product types (BIN is shellac based, DEFT is lacquer)? 2. Can DEFT be tinted? 3. If so, what tint can I use and where can I purchase it?

Thanks for all your help~

You might consider spraying waterborne tinted lacquer. Target Coatings' USL is a favorite among many here on SMC. USL colors with universal colorants. You can buy universal colorants at real paint stores (not HD and the like). Or you can buy pre-colored USL at Homestead Finishing. http://www.homesteadfinishing.com/htdocs/targetcoatings.htm
