Ferrules for Pipe Handles

I made 3 handles out of 1/2 black pipe with the appropriate compression fittings. I also bought 2 3/4" and 4 1" pipes for scrapers, skews and hollowing tools.

Thing is, I can't find compression fittings for these sizes. I know a bunch of you use pipe and make your own ferrules. Would you pipe in (pun intended) with info on how you make your ferrules or attachment collars?
