I have a huge blank. Ok I'll quite bragging and get to the point.:D:D

I have a chunk of walnut 4.5" x 5.5" x 22" long. Im trying to decide what to do with it. I have yet to try a hollow form and honestly I dont even have any hollowing tools yet so not sure about that one. Anyone got any neat ideas ad to what I could attempt to make with it?
This blank came from a piece my friend gave me. Its 4.5" thick, 12" wide and 60" long. It it split right down the middle though so I guess without cutting and gluing, Im looking at some blanks roughly 5.5 x 4.5 by the time I cut the split portions out of it.

Jim, It sounds like you need to get some hollowing tools and a good steady rest built or bought!! Long and lean are tough without them. But you could do some glue ups and make a 4 piece larger bowl or a 9 x 9 x whatever and well the sky is the limit! So good luck and let us know what you create!

Jim,

I made a couple of walnut candle sticks for the large candles, that LOML just loves. Here is the thread: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=71688

End grain boxes are just a step below hollow forms. Ron

Jim there are a lot of lidded boxes in the piece. Just a thought.

There isn't really enough to make larger pieces from Jim, so why not cut into large 2X2s and make a couple of nice candle sticks and rough some boxes from the rest, that would be a good use for the size you have there I'd think :)

I kinda go along with the suggestions for candle holders because of the length of the walnut. Lidded end grain boxes would also be a nice option. Looking forward to seeing what you turn out of it!
