I posted a couple of weeks ago that i was trying to take possession of a burl i had located. I picked it up today. I ended up giving the old guy $50 for it. Probably too much, oh well. It was very dense and very very heavy. I'm sure glad he had a loader tractor to load it with.

Ah...yup. That's a big burl, John. Love to see the results :) What kind of wood is it, by the way?

John,
Great score! $50 is very low for a good solid burl like that one. Looking forward to some postings in the future.

I'm no expert on wood species. He thought it was some type of oak. All I know is it was very heavy. It didn't cut so easy either.

Hey Pete, havn't talked to you in awhile. Any chance of mounting one of these big burl pieces in your mustard monster to see what it looks like turned? I hope to have a mustard in a year or so, hate to cut some of these big pieces down enough to fit in my little delta.

Bring it on down!

I don't have my kids next weekend so that would be a perfect time.
