This one is 9" x 7.5". This had some pretty big gaps in the wood and I didn't think it would stay together. But it did, a testament to the strength of oak. Finished with danish oil and lacquer.

Sheesh Curt ... I can just see the gouge flying out of my hand and busting out the overhead lights!

Nice work!

Wow Curt - this really put a smile on my face!!! Congrats on being able to complete this HF as I am sure it was a challenge! Great tool control! Beautiful form, wood and finish! I saved this one to my favorites - absolutely love it!

Curt, My first larger turning that I ever sold was a root ball HF! I still love to get them mounted on the lathe and see what they become! I started a black cherry root ball about 2 weeks ago and it has some wonderful elements in it. It was very wet and partially frozen when I brougt it in from the woods, so it will be a while before I get to post pics.

Oak of any sort is a true favorite of mine too, and your HF is a wonderful piece of freeform art! A super job!!!

Wow that is really neat looking, it looks like it would have just exploded on the lathe. Must of took some real patience but it came out great!!

Impressive. I can believe it stayed together.

The voids are so overwhelming that I had to go back and look again to notice the beautiful grain.

I would have been nervous on that one staying together, really great job. It will be my lucky day if I ever find a piece of wood like that, more lucky to be able to turn it in one piece.

That piece is simply amazing. I have a question. I'm not sure of the exact terminology but do you use one of those Hollowing systems attached to the lathe or did you use hand held tools. I would think it would be almost impossible to avoid catches with a hand held tool. Great work indeed.

That's a beautiful form, Curt. Keeping it together is certainly an exercise in technique, but creating a piece of art in the process is really impressive. Love to see more of your work
