Compared to most of the projects here, this is rather modest, but everyone has to start someplace.

This is an end table/nightstand I built using all hand tools. I did not take enough photos during the process, but I used a number planes in this project--jack plane, jointer, block planes, side-bead molding plane, and a super-smoother (a #6 setup to take very fine shavings). In addition I used my Disston hand saws for all rough dimensioning (rip and x-cut), a LV dovetail (probably need to get a real tenon saw), plus a Japanese dozuki for fine cuts. Mortises were chopped using a Ray Iles 'pigsticker'.

Top is poplar, finished with milk paint, followed by boiled linseed oil and a high gloss varnish. It still needs to be rubbed out and polished, but that won't be for a few weeks.

Legs are pine, finished with milk paint and boiled linseed oil.

Apron is pine, finished with garnet shellac and blonde shellac.

I am not so handy with my camera, and the best room in the house for illumination just happens to be rather ... yellow.

Joe,

The table looks great. I appreciate it all the more due to your exclusive use of hand tools. I have only made one smaller project that was "hand tool only." I am impressed.

Thanks all, it was a fun project. :)

Next on the project list, a matching chest of drawers. Now that I have a bandsaw, I might use that for some of the more tedious ripping, but the rest will likely be hand tools again.
