I'm building a display case for a friend's daughter whom has acquired 14 belts in a Taekwondo juniors program. I designed the project with an Asian influence and included an inlay on each side. I wanted to incorporate turquoise after seeing Dewey Torres’s tutorial http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=100825&highlight=turquoise+inlay

Here is the result of my first inlay attempt.

With an alcohol wipe you can see the Hangul inlay-- the left is "Taekwondo" and "Jessica" is the other. BTW, this is a dry fit of the project minus the shelves and backing.

William,
You got it perfect. Warning, inlay is addictive. I have more new materials now which involve stone. I just completed a similar design with Red crimson back ground and Malachite highlights. Same procedure, just use the highlight color for your dust filler.

William, I sure like your idea and am looking forward to the finished project. The son of a close friend is into Taekwondo juniors program as well. Something like this would be a fantastic gift for him next Christmas.:)

Thanks, the wood is Maple.
For some reason, the grain and color of the wood really fooled me. The grain looked a little like ash, but not the color - had me stumped. Would never have guessed maple!

Wow, that's a great project for displaying the belts. Very cool. At first I thought the inlay was Canadian with the "Eh?" ;) I guess I have too many Canadian friends :p:D:p Great job. I really like the look of it.
