Making more progress on grain mill project. Got all parts made and did a test assembly.http://www.sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=8370
Then take apart and start siding. All that is left is to apply batton strips and shingle. Hopefully will be running this week end.http://www.sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=8371&stc=1

I like it... but since I am just one of the city folk not really sure what the purpose for it would be... Looks like it's nicely constructed though.

Well folks, I finally got the project finished and did a test run. Need to do a little more calking on the wheel itself because of too many leaks but it works OK.

What do you think about a finish? I love the look of the cedar so paint is out.
Could leave natural so it gets a weathered look or maby a exterior poly or spar varnish.

By the way, the cedar shingles are also recycled.

By the way, Michael, it is a yard ornament

Thanks for lookinghttp://www.sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=8426&stc=1

Hey Dave, nice job. The second picture clarifies things tremendously. The first time I looked at this post I couldn't quite figure out what you were building. When you mentioned grain mill what came to my mind was the type of grain mill I've used for cracking barley for brewing beer. :D But the picture didn't quite fit that bill.

I agree, leave it with a natural wood finish. Ought to look nice in your yard.

That looks great Dave. I thought about building one of those or a windmill awhile back, but our front by the house where we'd put it is too small.

I'd just go with spar varnish over it. That cedar's too pretty to cover up.
