I received a half dozen bowl lengths of Black Cherry, for having given some one on one pointers to a turner here last year, one of which was a crotch and this is from one half of it.
It had the bark in quite a way and also a little brown rot, as I was expecting it to open up wide while drying, to prevent that, I added a staple (I do this more often) to keep it from doing that, the result is more warping but I prefer that over the other.
The first two picture show the warped bowl and the amount that has to be removed to get it flat again.
It is now 12" X 2¼" and finished with one coat of Polymerized tung oil :D
Well as you can see the "first two pictures" have been move by this program to spot 2 and 3, anyway I added them to give just an idea what happens often with wood that has issues :rolleyes:
