Jet 1642
Jet 1220vs

I would hate to give up either one.

Since Jet is not on your list, I did not vote.

What lathe do you like best?

Many many lathes missing, why is General not there? I believe Gereral were making lathes long before Oneway, Robust, Powermatic to name a few and there are no doubt more Gererals in operation to-day than these
three combined. Must not forget Delta either, lots of those lathes in
operation and probably will be for a long time. Lets be fair if you are going to have a pole, what not give all manufactures a chance, just my thoughts, THANKS.....

I did all that I could think of. I would add more if I could, but I don't think I can.

The lathe I happen to be using at the time you ask?????

Craig Powers

I'll abstain from this one, but if the Gonsalves lathe or Dennis Ford lathe(both homemade)
were choices, they would have my vote.

Not on your list...Stubby. My third and last lathe!

BTW, the Poolewood is no longer available outside of used ones as far as I know.

If I had the space and cash, I'd own a Stubby or VB36 pretty quickly.

I love my Oneways(2436 and 1224). But, would it not be more accurate to ask do you like your current lathe?

I have a very strong suspicion that the results would be virtually the same if the question was what lathe do you own. How can a lathe qualify as a favorite if you've never used it?

Tho I voted for the MM I have to say that my favorite would be the Robust.

My present lathe is a Oneway 2016. As a lefty I do much of my turning on the outboard bed.

In 70 plus years of turning I've had 9 lathes. Started with Sears in 1936. Since then, several Deltas, a General 260, A Nichols custom lathe and now the Oneway. At my age, that's probably the last one.

As stated before, your list of available lathes is a pretty short one. Left out a number of popular lathes.

I did all that I could think of. I would add more if I could, but I don't think I can.
There's 102 lathes listed here (http://www.nealaddy.org/pub/Lathe_List.html) (not counting old iron). Take your pick!

Well, I love my Robust, loved my PM, loved my Atlas. I don't like a Reeves drive at all. I don't like the Jet 14 which has the motor mounted backwards. The Delta 16 inch variable speed one is okay. the Oneway 1236 (or there abouts) is okay, but felt under powered for a 1 hp motor. The Nova DVR looks okay, but didn't like the 2 ft long bed sections the ways sit directly on the metal frame, so I don't know how you would get the shavings and dust out without a blower. I would love to try a VB36, big Oneway, Vicmark, Nichols, and Stubby. Maybe a Serious as well, but for personal preference, I have to have a sliding headstock. A spring pole lathe would be fun to try as well.

Now that you mention it Reed, I was in Oregon just over a year ago. I am not there very often. I have only been there once. Right now I am in Mesquite Nevada(quite close to Las Vegas). I live in Utah though, It takes 1 1/2 hours to get here.
