That's a good looking bowl, Dave. Can you give us any more info on it - woods used, size, etc.

Thanks Brian. bottom ring is walnut. light colored rings are hard maple. zig zag and top rings are padauk. its 6.5" wide by 7' high. the finish is friction finish. Like I said this is my first. i need to learn about different chucks and other lathe accessories. To be honest, I dont know one chisel from another. The inside work was the challenge, although it came out nice. I need to make some ring clamps and jigs. Picked up Malcoms book. lots of great ideas there. If i knew how to remount it on the lathe I would cut the top off and fix the segment alignment mistake. (As you can see in the photo. Oh well. chalk it up to experience.

Like the bowl and the woods go together good . Now you do know that make better sounding steros and telephones now days than the ones in your picture:D:D:D

Dave, what a great first segmented vessel - nice going! I've seen many 10th tries that were not as good.

That was your fist bowl period:eek:

How long have you been turning other stuff?

You guys are good!

Nice work Dave, especially for your first! Most (all?) of us have made an alignment "oops" at some time. Part of the challenge of segmenting is how easy it is to lose focus momentarily and mess up at any point in the process. And the satisfaction of completing a nice piece is very rewarding. I think you should feel very satisfied with your first.

I guess I can't get enough detail in the pictures cause I don't see the misalignment. Looks like a great piece to me.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. For my second project I think I'm going to make the chess table and chairs that is in Malcolms book. (NOT) Isn't that an unbelieveable piece?

Excellent job Dave!!! Impressive for first project. I've been trying to segment turn for a few months now. It sure is a learning curve.
Keep the pics coming.

Very nice looking piece Dave. I'm looking forward your next piece. I need to get back to segmenting, and then I remember how time consuming it is.

That is a nice segmented vase. You always seem to notice something isn't aligned just after you part it off, don't you?
