It did not start off to be a jar but that's how she turned out.
I hooked a knot in the inside near the base and jumped the tool---if that makes any sense. Busted the top 4 inchs off the vase and now she's a jar.
Jars have lids;)
Anyway fresh off the lathe with nothing more than a coat of oil. With the lid she stands 20 inchs tall. Maple with some curl and a bit of birdseye in spots.
The lid is wetter than the base as it drys they will color match---both are from the same stock

Nice save! I hope the top still fits when it's dry... you even got some grain to match in the lid! Good job.

Allan to tell you the truth---I am keeping my fingers crossed on this one.
I cut the lid at a taper so it will fit as long as the jar doesn't "egg".

To bad about the catch but it sure turning into a nice design change! Great looking wood! Should be real pretty once dried and finished!

Great looking wood and sometimes design changes happen.

Here's a funny---the pic in my Avatar is of the same piece.
This was so much fun to turn that after the design change I made three lids. The first one became a funnel---the second was to small and fell into the base---the three one is what you see.
