I was turning a small maple burl bowl for my wife. She wants it to be deep, so I used a glue block. Shaped the outside, turned it around and made two passes on the inside and away it went.

Wow, bad catch? No, no evidence of that. The glue joint just seemed to fail. Flat surfaces for the join, but I did use some glue that I've had for quite awhile.

Oh well, just enough time for a shower before the game.

Gary,
I've had the same thing happen with fresh TBII glue . The burl warped just enough to pull slightly away from the waste block as it dried a bit. I managed to catch mine and stop the lathe just prior to the "departure" shall we say.

I have had the same problem 2 times now with TBII. I was turning a bowl, shaped the outside, left a 3/4" tenon to the glue block. I went to shape the inside, did all that, sanded and applyed finish. I started parting the tenon off while holding the piece with my other hand. Once it got to 1/2" or so, I just moved the bowl by hand and it came off.
