I was able to purchas a MAX OSS from a used tool store a few weeks ago. The machine was in very good condition with all spindles, insert plates, wrenches, and even the original paperwork. Mine was built in 1971. It did need a new oil seal, a good cleaning, and I decided to paint it too. The oil breather vent had become plugged and that put pressure on the seal letting gear oil leak out underneath and down into the motor. I had to completely disassemble the motor to get the super stinky old gear oil out of it. I rebuilt an old Quincy compressor and the stock color from then was a nice metaillic blue so I decided to paint the sander in metallic green in the same shade as their stock color. The pics don't show it, but the color is in the same shade as stock, but metallic.
I paid $550, $10 for a new seal, $30 for new gear lube, and $80 for paint. New MAX VS1 today, $3895 :D
