View Full Version : Longer Shank Carving Bits?

In my other hobby, bonsai, we carve deadwood, holes and grooves into live trees such as below.

For that the best tool is a die grinder with a round grooving carbide router bit. Anyone know where we could buy those with a longer shank length? It
would be great to be able to go all the way through without having to start at the front, then work up from back to the front until the areas meet.

Joe,

I am not sure I am reading your post correctly. If you are looking for round nose fluting (veining, core box) bits, I just went through this. Milescraft has 1/4" shaft with a 2 1/4" overall length. I just bought a set of three (1/4, 3/8, and 1/2") for about $20 on Amazon, through the creek of course.

That's what I had in mind, 1/4" and 3/8" 2-1/4" long would be a big improvement over stock length, even longer would be better if they are made.

Thanks.
