Woodcraft hand plane class

My local Woodcraft is offering a class for hand plane introduction this month and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this class or any of the lessons Woodcraft has to offer. The class covers handplane setup, sharpening, uses, etc and the cost is $50 for the day. Would this be good for a hand tool beginner such as myself, or would I be better off just reading my books and scouring the internet for information and advice? Thanks.

David, I think that is a great idea. You can learn by reading and watching videos, but hands-on is always a great way to get it.
