I wanted to start trying some carving on my turnings and liked the idea of the Bosch turning stand but it was $145 and I didn't want to spend that much so.. I bought a $5 1x8" 8" bolt cut it in half, grinded, drilled and tapped it.

It doesn't look very nice but It works well.

Thats pretty crafty Bob. Necessity is truly the mother of invention.

Looks great Bob and like it will do the job. Sometimes not pretty is best.

its so insane how much people spend on stuff when a lot of the time they can create the product themselves. from 145$ to 5$. Astonishing. Well done.

great idea. Consider that stolen. I like homemade tools and make a lot of them. ;)

That looks good! I watched a dvd from aaw on william hunter great dvd! He uses a nest of old socks filled with sand to lay his turnings in to carve them. Works for him! George
