This is the first piece I hollowed with Randy Privit's Monster hollowing rig (on my mustard monster)...
If it keeps working like this, it will be my second most used tool. First would be the lathe!
The "practice wood" I selected is curly sugar maple. It does have one "plain side, but still...
7 3/4 inches high by 6 inches in diameter.
Oil sanded to 600 and waxed, no buffing.

As Always, All Comments and/or Critiques Welcome!

Wow! George, if that is practice...I can't wait to see the game time stuff. Great looking piece. I know Randy's stuff is good, but something tells me that this has a lot to do with the operator too.
All the best.

George - most impressive! Love the form, love the wood and love the way the light just dances! Absolutely superb!

So, big difference using Randy's system? I really thought so - especially the way you can feel everything inside the form! Hope it works out to be everything you thought it would be!

When you have the time - please put together a photo Gallery. It would make it easy for lots of folks to see your work here on SMC!

Again - very nice work!

Your right, the plain side ruins it all. Send it over here and I will take care of it for you :D Looks great seriously, Some nice looking maple too.

Exquisite, George. Great form and that maple is just outstanding, even if the figure tends to one side.

Very nice shape on this one. Not sure which side you think is boring. It all looks good to me. Well done

George, It is a beauty! The shape you chose is a classic and done very well! With the curl on one side it is like the half man half woman at the circus sideshow!

Very nice,

Jeff

jeez, if I thought buying one of the hollowers would let me turn like that, I would have a shop full...very nice form. and I am partial to lighter woods like the maples...super job:D

Very nice piece! The wood is beautiful and the form very pleasing. It sounds like you are very happy with your choice of the Monster system. Have you used others? If so how would you compare them?

Looks real nice George. Randy makes a great hollowing rig, doesn't he?

Wow, great piece of wood and the turning ain't too shabby either. As far as the plain side goes, that's what walls are for, let it face the wall.
