Coffee Table Identification

Hey Creekers,

Here is a coffee table I purchased sometime back but I don't have any information about it. Thought maybe somebody here could give an idea. Also what type of wood do you suppose it's made from?

Hard to tell but it kind of looks like well aged walnut to me.
That may be unlikely depending on the place of origin but it is an excellent carving wood.

my guess is Hong Kong shortly after WWII this kind of table was very popular with sailors on leave.
This is just a uneducated guess on my part.
I look forward to knowing a definitive answer.

A store by me sells that type of furniture. Similar looking coffee tables. The wood looks the same. I cant remember what wood they said it was, but it wasn't walnut and it didn't look like any walnut I've ever seen.
