This morning a friend of mine gave me a piece of mesquite he's had in his scrap box for the last 25 years. He gave it to me as a joke to "keep me busy" and warned me that it was full if sand and not to use any good tools on it. He was right. It had so much sand in it I couldn't get rid of the sanding marks. I ended up sanding with CA and 500 grit sand paper. The slurry filled the scratches. This is the first time I've turned mesquite and liked it.
Two questions.
Anyone know a score for mesquite and what is a good finish for mesquite?
The goblet is about 3 1/2" tall.
Now I have to go sharpen my gouge and skew.

Thanks
Dave

Nice goblet, good look to it and nice color, too.
Enjoy your retirement.

Looks pretty good David! I've never turned any of it but the folks that have swear by it! I have also heard that many turners do not use any type of finish on Mesquite - just let it age naturally.

David way to go. Now you can have fun and congrats on retirement. Great looking goblet. I love turning mesquite especially when green. You can turn start to finish and it just doesn't move. I like antique oil on mine.
