I found Bob Smalser's article about making a chisel handle. I decided to put a handle in an old 2" slick that belonged to my wife's grandfather. I made the handle from red oak and I'm pleased with the effort. I really found Bob's article to be very informative.
The wood was prepared with power tools, but the handle is hand carved. I used rasps, shaves, handplanes and sandpaper. It has two coats of Deft Danish oil and is seated in epoxy like Bob said to do.:)

I had to clean up the battered socket with files after drilling the old wood out.

Lowell, are you saying you made that without a lathe?

Very nice job!

It was done without a lathe.

I cannot say enough about the excellent article that Bob Smalser wrote. I think it may be on line here at the Creek, but I found it at the Fine Woodworking site.

Nice work. I can't believe you hand shaped that. Mine would look a little more....not round.

Good work for not using a lathe.

I tried carving one, it did not work out. So I bought a lathe.
