Good evening to the VORTEX!! Here are a couple little ones that I finished up today. The one with the green collar is made from a jackpine cone with acrylic pen blank for the top. The other is spalted hard maple with an ebonized collar. My wife thinks the pincone one looks like a pinapple!

Thanks for looking,

Jeff

Agree on the pineapple look alike. How do you attach the tops? These are really neat.

I love the little pineapple! How did you do the joint? Are they fully hollowed to the shape of the outside?

They are pretty nice small ones Jeff, if you make them very small you could fit them in some small boxes, I done some a few years ago, picture taking wasn't too great in those days though :o

Found these I made over 15 years ago, before I "knew how to turn". Ebony goblet 11/16". Have to get those dentil tools out again.

Jeff,
I think the pine cone also looks like a pineapple. Either way it is my fav.

Leo,
Your minis look great too~!

Not sure how you make something that small on a lathe. You invent a magnifying face shield? I don't think I could turn anything that small.... pretty cool shapes though.

All the minis I make are completly hollow and turned as thin as I can get them! Sometimes I go right out the side and have to start over, I really love the challenge of the tiny ones! So far not magnifiction, but at times I wish I had something. I have been looking at some magnifier glasses or a magnifying glass on an arm with a light. Would be good for more detail. So here are the tools and how I start out to make a mini.

Thanks for all your fine comments!

Here are the rest and the little MT#2 I use to glue on the blanks with super glue. I have been buying the CA in 8oz. bottle now, I use lots of it!

Heck I can't turn the big ones yet, the little ones look impressive.

Maybe make a little mini table and a whole place setting. It would look cool if nothing else.

Jeff,
Nice (little) pieces there. You guys are killing me with these mini's! I have a hard enough time with the larger ones...
Thank you all for sharing some of your work.

Jeff, those are just plain neat. Do you wear one of those visors with the magnifying glass in it to do that? I just could see good enough even if I had the talent.

Thanks for the close-up of the tips. I think I might give it a try now

Hi Jeff, I use the illuminating magnifier shown in the picture, helps a lot for my old eyes, but the fluorescent light doesn't give enough light to see well for me, so I have a small spotlight on a similar arm to give me the light where I want it.
