This is another sycamore bowl made from the tree that grew on General Ambrose Burnside's property. I turned out 11.5" x 2.75" finished in home brew oil, 2 stage beall buff then renaissance wax.

Steve,
The finish is really great. I like the form and the rim gives it an added dimension. Way to go.

Steve, The color of the wood and the finish make it look almost antique! I love the simple shape too. There are so many beautiful woods here in the U.S. to turn, maybe I will have to get some of that sycamore.

Keep up the good work,

Jeff

That's an exquisite piece of work. I love the shape of this one.
Like Leo says, it's pretty dark for sycamore. Could it possibly be Sweet Gum? Sometimes they're mistaken for each other.... well, sometimes I mistake one for the other. :( :D

Steve,
Very nice work, I think the form is great and it has been said but the finish really adds a lot, also. Good job.

Allen,

It is definitely sycamore. This is one of several bowls I have posted that came from the Indiana home of General Ambrose Burnside. It was a very large tree that was cut down for highway widening. I got several pieces and the highway guys said I could have the entire trunk which was at least 75 feet long, a couple days later they reduced it to chips:eek:. I tried counting the rings in the stump and stopped at 150.
