This is about 2 months work from cutting the logs to final buffing. I got an order from a local ladies gift shope for some vases. There are 15 here ranging in size from 12.5" down to 4.5". After getting paid I should be up to a whole 10% saved towards a Mustard Monster. At this rate I should be 82 by the time I come up with the $3K+. Most of these have been posted individualy in the last few months...Bill...

I don't know how old you are, but don't forget to add inflation and good old fashioned price increases. That may take you to 95 :p

Beautiful work Bill! Those are some exceptionally nice vases/hollow forms! I think it is about time you have a good heart to heart with your financial management team and get your prices increased!

Sure is some nice work you did there Bill, seems like it should be worth a lot more than $300 but at least you're selling stuff, thats more than most!!

If the mustard monster is about $3400, 10% is obviously $340 for 15 vases. That's about $23 each.

I'd never sell one of those (especially as nice as these appear) for less than $100 each! And probably more like $150-$300 each.

You've been robbed.

Bill,
If you don't receive between 1/3 and 1/2 the cost of the new lathe after they take their percentage you are way under priced. Those are some nice looking pieces.

Bill, It looks like the ladies will be happy and anyone who purchases one of your vases will definitly be happy! Great job and keep up the good work! I am doing some flat work right now so my turning is on hold a bit. I am making a bunch of jewelry boxes of different sizes and wood for the art gallery and consignment shop.

Keep on spinning!!

Jeff

Beautiful work Bill. What drying method did you use?

William,

That is one nice grouping that you have there.

I agree with others that if you are only getting aprox. $300.00 then you are not getting what they are worth.

Either that or you are single and trying to make inroads with the local ladies!!! ;)

Nice job.

Thanks for the nice comments! Afraid most "craft" items do not go for decent money out here in the woods. I too think they are worth more than $25 to $30 each but my choice seems to be sell them at that price or store them in the shop. I would love to think $100 to $150 for something that takes sooooo much work is possible.
Sean: Most of the logs for these HF's have been cut, sealed and drying in my shop for up to 2 years. With the exception of the cedar I don't get a lot of cracking. Now with the cedar it starts to crack when I walk up to the piece with sandpaper in my hand!...Bill...

Bill,
You should seriously consider opening an account on Ebay. It's aggravating sometimes but I believe your profit margins would increase substantially. For vases like what you are doing,I would be charging $100+ and ebay would give you access to that level. They are absolutely beautiful.

Beautiful work! Another outlet you may look into is www.etsy.com (http://www.etsy.com). I have never bought or sold anything on the site, but it is set up for handmade items from individuals and has a woodworking section. It might be worth researching.
