I finally finished this latest project. Mesquite chalice...10" tall (quarter used for sizing) . jg

Beautiful chalice Jim. I like the shape and the wood is spectacular. I've always wanted to try turning mesquite.

Very nice work Jim! Great form and some really beautiful wood! I'm with Dewey - what did you use for a finish?

Thanks for the replies and comments. I'll hand sand 120-180grt and then start wet sanding with MinWax209 Natural 220, 320, 400, 600 and 1000(if I have it). Several coats of the 209 and then let it dry for several days. Slow speed buff with several applications of MinWax Paste on the outside surfaces.

Jim great looking chalice. Mesquite looks really good. Love turning mesquite.

Really beautiful. Does wine stain it? I wonder what mesquite flavored wine is like... I have some mesquite, but I don't think I'm accomplished enough to turn something that nice, yet.

PS, when I turn mesquite, I save the shavings for next summer BQ.
