I need to get some of my crap up off the floor and onto my nice high walls.

I'm also insufferably cheap, so I'm going to need to make the shelving myself.

Does anybody have plans or close-up pictures of shop-made shelving like seen in these pictures:

No pics, but I can tell you about my shop shelving. Like you, I don't want to put much time or money into shop furniture. Perhaps unlike you, my shop is in rented space, so I don't want to put lots of holes in the walls.

The uprights are 2x4s. The shelves are 3/4" construction-grade plywood, ripped to 12" wide. The uprights are in pairs, with one in front and one in back. They are dadod to capture the edges of the shelves. There are two screws through the 2x4 into the edge of the shelf at each dado. There is a pair of uprights approximately every 4' along the shelves, arranged to be in front of a stud in the wall. At the top of each rear upright, there is one screw into a stud. That's it. Cheap, fast, and sturdy enough.

I have one run about 6' long, another about 12' long, and a third about 3' long.

They're not elegant. Because they're all construction lumber and plywood, they're not particularly straight. Because it is construction plywood supported every 4', some of the shelves sag somewhat. But y'know, it doesn't matter. It is a shop.

I am unbelievably cheap as well.

I recently added cabinet storage to the walls of my garage by visiting a local cabinet shop and asking about any scrap or leftover cabinets. The shop had a 70" base, a 24" base and a 30" wall cabinet that they sold me for $50. (The cabinets had been built for a job but never picked up after 7 years!) I had to add pulls and brace the sides as well as build a countertop from 3/4 MDF and plywood, but for $50, I will take it. Did I mention that they were Cherry???

I then wanted some more wall cabinets so I went to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, a thrift/resale store to support HFH here in Chattanooga. I'll bet your town has one as well. I found some maple cabinets that had been removed from a home for $100. Again, I added pulls and fixed some minor damage, but well worth the $100. I got 2 60"w x 50"h cabinets + another 42" wall cabinet.

I doubt that you could buy the materials to build even low-cost cabinets or shelving for this price. Check around and ask around, I'm sure that you can find some CHEAP cabinets out there.

Leo -- what am I seeing here? Each vertical is made from three layers of what size stock?

Everything was built with 2x stock. I set it through the planner to make sure everything was the same thickness, I think I finished it up at 1 7/16" That way the cheater mortice and tennons would have a good bite on the sides as well as the tops and bottoms. It has quite a load on it. While I was loading it for the first time I was wary to listen for any noises, to my delight, not one creek or crack was heard. About 1 hour after I loaded it I hear it creek once. But that was the end of that. Hasn't budged since. Handles the heavy loads good. It is supported by the building as well as the bracing.
