Bandsaw question

I recently picked up a 14" Craftsman bandsaw through CL. Who can tell me the purpose of the tapered pin that goes into the slot in the table where the blade is fed in? I'd really like to know.

Ron...it's to keep the two sides of the slot aligned with each other....when temperature changes occur....etc.

Thus it should prevent cracking......My MM16 has one too.
