I've seen so many nice birdhouse ornaments on this forum that I thought I'd give it a try. Besides my New Year Resolution is to get an early start on next Christmas' gifts. It is about 3 1/2" tall and the body is 1 1/8" dia. Spalted maple(?) and totally unknown.

This is my first birdhouse, would appreciate constructive criticism.

no criticism here, looks like all you need is some birds

Paul good looking birdhouse, I would have made the icicle/tail more finer or dainty looking, but it's not bad as is, we don't all like or go for the same things, good thing I believe, or it would be a boring world out there, :) :D

Leo, I think you are correct, both top and bottom should be turned down a little more. I was reaching my limit as a turner, but next one I will try harder.

Paul - that looks pretty good for the first one! Really like the woods! Agree with Leo about turning things a little thinner. I had the same problem when I turned mine but it had more to do with the size of the tools I was using than anything else! Stick with it - they get better with time!

Paul, Looks great, the fussy finials will come with practice. I leave some short and stubby too as each one needs it's own certain look.

Great job!

First or 101st I think it is great.

I am curious, did you hollow it out? I've seen some hollowed and some just made to look hollowed.
