A coworker's father-in-law is selling his woodworking equipment, he doesn't know how much he wants for the pieces. Here is a pic of the Powermatic 66. He also has PM100 planer, PM1150A variable speed drill press, a PM60 8" jointer, and a Green PM 6"x48" belt 12" disc sander combo. My dad is interested in the planer and drill press, I am interested in the table saw and sander combo, and my brother-in-law is interested in the jointer.

Any recomendations on fair prices to offer for each piece??

Thanks in advance for your assistance!!

Its sad when someone gives up isn't it?

I have that same saw I bought from a pattern shop for $500, but I think I got a deal. It appears to be an older USA made model like the one I have and I use mine just as much as my SCMI, its a great saw. If the stuff is real nice and you plan on keeping it forever, you can pay a little more the way I think and all is well

Just off the top of my head if I was to run into them.....

Saw $1000 max.

Planer $900 max.

Drill press $450 max.

Jointer $750 max.

Not exactly sure what that sander is, but there is a nice Delta that sounds similar in the for sale section in your area for $450.

If the old fellow is selling because he is having hard times I would offer more and tell the Red Cross to go jump this year. Of course I tell the Red Cross to go jump every year....

Local dealer here wants $850-895 for a PM 1150 drill press. Saw one on Ebay for $650, but it needed parts.

I paid $365 for my 1150, 1984. $600 for my PM60, 1979. And would do many things to get ahold of a PM100.....

I went 450 because I have bought two Walker Turners, one a reversable threader for $100 and $250 each, and they kick the 1150's butt. A drill press is not that complicated a tool, and little has changed. I like the speed changer on the one Turner better than any I have seen on the market today. So.....

There is no reason to be stuck on a 1150, unless you like the color.:)

Steve, did you find a Leutz [sp] dealer? I use one in Grand Rapids and they have been good to me. If you still need the number I have it at the shop.

PM 66: 8-900
PM100: 600
PM60: 5-600
PM30: 450
PM1150: 6-750

These are guestimates, value really depends on condition and whether any of it is 3 phase, etc. There is no hard and fast rule on equipment value, ebay is probably not a good source either, lots of stuff that is way overpriced. Market is soft right now, people don't have the cash to spend so that may be in your favor.

Thanks everyone for their help. I now have a general idea of what the pieces are worth. I plan to go look at the equipment early next week. I will keep you all updated.

Thanks again!

It's funny to see the range of prices. MAX for some looks like a price they might find after a very long search, or if they got very lucky. I think a lot depends on where you look. I read Craig's list and search for PM every day. Even with the soft market, here are prices for PM machines in really nice condition in the Phx area.

PM66 = $1200-1400
PM belt/disc sander $600 or so
PM60 8" = $800 or so, sold mine for $700 to move quick, sold in one day
PM1150 = wide range depending on condition. If there is little runout and great condition, then $800 or more
PM100 = this is my planer. Not worth a ton, but I see them go on ebay for $800-1000. Some junk looking units for $400 or so. 12" isn't a limit for me, but for those who use wide boards and don't worry about cupping, 12" is too small

I'd ask yourself, what TS would you rather have for less than $1400 than a USA made PM66? That drill press is WAY better than new Jet, SC, or Delta machines. 6" stroke and true industrial quality with variable speed.

That PM60 is worth (assuming decent condition) $800+. Just make sure you get manuals for everything, if not from the seller, then from Powermatic. Whether they'll pony up manuals since the Jet takeover I dunno, but I did get a photocopied manual for my PM54 shortly before the takeover.
