I finally got around to making a light tent and took some test shots on a walnut bowl I finished recently. The bowl is roughly 12" and finished with danish oil.

Turning bowls seems to be a lot easier than taking decent pictures of them!

David - great looking bowl! Have to agree that turning anything is easier than trying to photo it!

Dave - I used black poster board as a background.

Beautiful bowl David. If it were me, I'd try white poster board instead of the black. The white should reflect a little light back up to the underside of the bowl, that way it isn't so dark. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks Brian. I have a sheet of white also. I'll give that a try.

IMO the bowl and photograph are both excellent. Some contrast is needed to show off the form of the bowl and you did a good job of it.

David,
Must have missed this one earlier. WOW what a clean sharp edge on the rim. The thing looks as thin as paper.

David, what a beautiful piece. I believe this is the first time I recall seeing a rim turned this way on a bowl. I've seen many different styles, but never like this. If you don't mind, I'd like to try to copy that some time. Nicely done!

Thanks George! I "borrowed" the idea from Clarissa Spawn http://www.clarissaspawn.com/ She has some really great bowls and she's a real class act. I turned this one to final thickness while it was green. It graduates to about 1/2 thick at the base.

That's a beauty of a bowl! The sapwood on the edges really sets it off. And that's a great photo too.

Darned nice bowl, David. Simple lines, great grain, finish is light enough to SHOW that grain and your design choices.

Nice! If I were there, I'd stick on a gold star. :)
