View Full Version : Do I need Photograv?

I have just started using my VLS2.30. It's great for the jobs I bought it for (cutting thin plywood for model making), but I have experimented with engraving too. I have used the standard settings to engrave a photo onto glass and acrylic, but the detail doesn't look good when I look directly at it. It looks OK when I look obliquely, but it looks like I am getting Moire patterns, like newspaper photos. I have tried engraving on the front and the back.
Should I keep experimenting, or do I need specialist software like Photograv?

If you're a hobbyist and can afford Photograv it's probably a good choice if you plan on doing a lot of photo engraving. I do very little of that type work and have no need for Photograv. I muddle through with Corel Photopaint.

It's quite a popular program and I have seen few real complaints about it.

If engraving is your business then only you can do the cost/benefit analysis.
