I have the carbidetipped knives in my dewalt planer. So far so good i passed about 200bft of burma teak thru the machine along with various other woods.Yesterday i opened the top to clean the pitch off the knives everything looks good. Tested the cut on some hard maple one tiny nick showed up.I considered buying the head with the carbide inserts.I just know i would betaking my machine to someone to put back together after i am done with it.Mans got to know his limitations.http://www.sawmillcreek.org/images/icons/icon10.gif

Andrew, if you can move the knives a little left or right, so the nick on each knife does not hit the wood in exactly the same spot, and then reset the height - the nick will disappear when you plane the next board. That said, be careful as the knives will pertrude a tiny bit out from the head.

Thanks vince for the advice i did do that.I am satisfied with the knives considering how teak destroys everything.I have a helical head on my jointer and i will never go back to steel. The small furrows the inserts leave dont bother me.But the finish coming from the straight carbide knife was pretty nice.Do you have the dewalt three knive planer?

The only reference to carbite I could find was for golf clubs. Is this a brand name?

Do you have a website for Inifinity? I don't seem to be having any luck finding them and I'm in the market for some new jointer and planer blades.

Wholly smokes! If you're in the biz, then $147 for a set of knives for an 8" jointer might not be bad but as a hobbiest I would be afraid to use my jointer for fear of nicking them.
