I'd like to get an idea about how to set the MM up, what types of shelves, if any, you've built, and add-ons you've made, where you put it, and etc. I realize there are a few "show me your shop/lathe" threads but how about a Mustard Mashup?

Looking forward to your pics,
Burt

This site (http://mustardmonster.googlepages.com/) will be of GREAT help to you - I am a mustard monster turner myself, haven't done anything cool to mine yet, but this site inspires me!

Burt, look for the thread that talks about the trapezoid shaped cabinet from American Woodworker (?) - not sure. At least one person here built it, but adapted it somehow - more tool storage maybe. I like the idea because you can still get right up to the toolrest without anything sticking out under the ways.

I don't have a copy of the magazine, but am building it based on what I saw. I'm sure I'll miss some of the finer - kludging it as I am, but I really don't need another zine in the house.

My cabinet should be done this week, if I can get away from work and other commitments.

Steve,
I was thinking of the same thing. That is funny.:):) Burt, I am looking forward to seeing your lathe all set up and future turnings as well.
Happy turning,
Jack

this has worked great for almost 2 years.
storage for toolrests on the inside of the legs. steady rest and tool holders on the outside of the legs.
lower box - 15 dovetailed maple boxes - holds kits , tools .
top box - holds chucks , jaws , tools in rolls and everything else.the top slants to the back by about 3 inches so what the cyclone does not get most of the time ends up on the floor.
everything but the cyclone in my garage is mobile, i made a custom stand wider and longer than the footprint of the lathe (and over 100 pounds)that the lathe is bolted to ( which the legs can be adjusted on the stand ) and put zambus casters on and it is as solid as it was on the floor and very easy to level. the front of the stand is set back so my boots never touch it while turning. and the mat even stores on the back hooks.
i also added a little extra pin stripe.

Tim,
Tell me about the base. I recognize Great Lakes Casters but don't know about the base. What is that appendage off the tailstock? I've noticed that before am clueless.

Thanks for the ONLY PICTURE so far. Sorry Steve, not exactly what I was thinking about.

I knew I should not have clicked on this thread! I had supressed my lust for the MM, now it is raging again. Kinda like scratching poison ivy...Bill..

Bill,
What you should do is lust after a Robust. Once you hear the final cost and shipping, you'll realize you can buy 3 MMs for the price on 1 Robust. Then it's like buying bubble gum.

Hi Burt,
That appendage is the comparator rear bracket - you mount a finished spindle on it and on the bracket on the head stock with the comparator spur centers that are included with the lathe and you can take your measurements right off of the finished spindle as you turn a similar one. it comes in very handy. and it is easy to sight across the two .

The casters are AC-600 Zambus, they are larger and have a bigger pad than the great lakes and rated at over 2600#.

The mobile base was custom made by me . I have worked as a welder fabricator , it was easy to make and added over 100 #.

Note especially the new graphics on the inverter. The extra weight in the box really helps.

I know the flavor isn't right (whipped cream?), but the cab I made for our jet1642 and some other examples are here:

Here's my Mustard. I built the rack underneath similar to the one in the manual. I also made the tool holder that I can move where I want when I'm working. I put together a remote E-stop on magnets that moves where I want it. LOML made the cover.

Kevin I like your Cabinet have you got any Plans made up for it?

I'd like a copy if you don't mind.

Nice I like it. I'd add another tool holder on the other side of the drawers for mine.
Very cool. Maybe a Lazy Susan type.

Mike, Slick. Could you provide more details on it's construction? This is one of the best I have seen to get the tailstock out of the way for hollowing and leaving room for the turner to stand. How does the device mate to the bed? Does the tail-stock move across smoothly? Jerry
